Rebirth of a marque icon... the Ghibli

Drove my first Maserati in Florida back in 1993 or so... was a c.1970's  Maserati Ghibli coupe.  Was a kick ass 12-cyl. joy ride in and out of the dealership... but alas... too much work to be done, too spoiled a car and my money and heart went to a 1994 3rd gen Mazda RX7.

Fast forward to 2007 or so, and I went wild on a 2002 Maserati 4200 GT coupe.. which I drove and enjoyed for about a year... ah, but family dictated a reasonable family car... a 4-door or something.. well I settles for a few years on a "practical car" until I purchase a 2010 modified Infiniti G37S convertible... highly modified w/ suspension, exhaust and other... which I plan to enjoy until by 50th BD.. when I plan on treating myself to a:

"Whore for a Sister"

A few years back when I had some liquid capital burning a hole in my pocket I decided it was time to buy myself a toy. I had been working as a doc in an urgent care center just a few years after med school and had the opportunity to buy my first real "sports car". I test drove some exotics... a 1972 V-12 Maserati Ghibli in Miami (with bad brakes and almost wrecked it in traffic pulling out of the dealership), a 1966 Corvette Stingray, and the car I chose a 1993 Mazda RX7 (3rd Gen.).

But while I was looking I was on the hunt for a Maser... a childhood dream since I was a wee tike. Caught up with the owner of the Red Baron Auction House in Atlanta. My question to him was: "Do you have any Maseratis in your inventory." The owner (a big fat sloppy f*#k of a man) responded: "I would rather have a whore for a sister than own a Maserati, but could I interest you in a 1970's Mercedes 450SL once owned by Country Music star Conway Twitty?" (what the hell?) Well that was back in 1992.

Today with the resurgence of the marque as a high-end exotic Grand Touring Coupe, my question to that fat ass is: "So how much does your sister turn tricks for these days in this down economy?"

--------------------now I see his son has a show on Discovery Channel-------------------
hopefully he is a better "egg" than his old man.

A Maserati Killing Machine (in the hands of the wrong person)

This 2007 Maserati crashed through a house (going all the way through) killing a man sitting on the sofa. The driver faces charges and has a track record of reckless & criminal behavior.

Fair Trade... albeit less Exotic

Fair Trade....

Well for the price of loosing my 2002 Maserati GT Coupe I gained two reasonable cars... the first (our green car... so I don't have to make excuses about my carbon foot print) is a 2009 Honda Fit-Sport. Nicely equipped, practical and fun to drive with a 5-speed manual. My daily driver to work and hauling the family on trips 1/2 way across country on only a tank of gas.

The second acquisition is a bit sportier and in the luxury class, not as exotic as the Maser, but for all practical purposes a more reliable, safer vehicle that can haul stuff with AWD traction and lets us have some fun with the top down for half the purchase price and cost to repair. She is a 2006 Audi A4 3.0L V6 Quattro AWD Convertible.

RIP

My Maser as she sat after spinning out and landing in a ditch. The whole underside (suspension) was ripped out along with severe twisting of the subframe.

September 16th, 2008... RIP Maserati GT

A sad day for my daily driver. After the accident on August 10th while on my way to work. Allstate Insurance company after a month of assessing the damages decided to call it a total loss. Repairs were to exceed $35K and they paid me what the car was listed on eBay. Can't complain... sad to see such a clean example go to the crushers... but I know they will salvage at least $30 or $40K of part from her to "recycle" into other GTs from the 2002-2008 series.
